Turning Memories into Gold for Katie

 

Discover how we designed a customized pendant for an ocean lover

 

Have you ever felt a moment so precious you wished you could hold onto it forever? That profound sense of connection and love — an undeniable, resounding “yes” deep within.

This is how our customer Katie felt while freediving in Mauritius with whales in the open ocean. It was a moment beyond her wildest dreams, one filled with wonder!

Moved by this experience, Katie came to us with a beautiful vision: a one-of-a-kind pendant to honor her deep connection to the ocean and she wanted Okra to create it for her.

 
 

The energy she felt for these magnificent sea beings of the ocean was so powerful that it reached us, inspiring us to recreate that feeling in a piece of jewelry just for her.

Katie wanted a whale's tail-inspired pendant crafted in 9carat gold. She wanted it to be three-dimensional and approximately 21-24mm in length, inspired by the heart and engravable pendant we have at OKRA.

 
 

To bring Katie's vision to life, we immersed ourselves in visual research, exploring breathtaking ancient Greek mosaics that reflect the culture’s reverence for the sea and its mythical creatures. We drew inspiration from ancient mythology, imagining the pendant as an amulet—serving as a protective talisman and a source of companionship for Katie, infused with the powerful energy and the knowing of the ocean and its legends.

 
 

The spiral icon holds a special place in our designs due to its sacred meaning of interconnectedness. Inspired by this, we decided to weave this symbol into Katie’s pendant.

In Greek mythology, the nautilus embodies growth and transformation. Its spiral shape represents the journey of life, encouraging us to expand and evolve. It’s a beautiful metaphor for the soul’s development and the pursuit of knowledge, reflecting the cyclical nature of existence. The nautilus also resonates with the mysteries of the sea, embodying themes of depth and exploration.

 

The Final Piece

After a few more sketches and tests, we’re thrilled to reveal the final piece!

 

The tail symbolizes a warm greeting from majestic whales, while the spiral represents a connection to the depths of the ocean. This talisman rests beautifully on a chain, a sacred symbol and a reminder of something she’ll carry with her forever.
