Juggling Life, Work, and Motherhood
9 small practices that make a difference in my well-being while raising little ones
Life has been full lately. As a mother to a new baby and a 3 year old, an artist, and an entrepreneur, I’m learning so much about juggling—and dropping—a few balls along the way. Managing it all is rewarding, yes, but some days feel like too much, and the cracks begin to show.
Consistency with my creations has been nearly impossible. There are so many ideas I want to bring to life, but often, time just slips through my fingers. Lately, I’ve been reflecting on how to simplify, lighten the weight on my shoulders and be kinder to myself. Motherhood teaches me something new each day, often in ways I didn’t expect. Urging me to carve out time for my well-being, even when it's easily forgotten.
With two little ones, I have to carefully nurture my energy—emotionally and physically—to show up for them, for myself, and for my brand. I also want my jewelry business, Okra, to grow and sustain us. My husband’s also running his own business, so when life gets chaotic, we both feel the highs and lows of juggling it all together. I’m sharing this openly because I know I’m not the only one feeling this way and might help someone in a similar situation. We all have our challenges, and sometimes just knowing we’re not alone makes all the difference.
In this article, I want to share how I’m discovering my center amidst the constant change and unpredictability of life. I recorded these thoughts during moments when I needed an anchor, and I thought, why not share them with you here? I also included some reflection questions that we can revisit from time to time.
Here’s what I’m learning from this season of motherhood:
1.Embrace the Season
Life doesn’t look anything like it did before. Each day, I remind myself to be present in this messy, beautiful moment—to feel everything fully and let things unfold in their own time. Trusting the timing. This season won’t last forever, and taking it one day at a time brings a sense of peace. There’s no need to fight the wave; instead, I’m learning to embrace it and flow with it.
• How can you lean into the season you’re in right now, allowing things to unfold at their own pace
2.Focus on What Matters
It’s so easy to get caught up in the endless to-dos, but sometimes life has a way of reminding me what truly matters. Just the other day, I had everything lined up, ready to take on my day. But my daughter had other plans—she tugged at my sleeve, wanting me to hold her, needing my full attention. I was tempted to say, “Just a minute,” but instead, I let it all go and sank to the floor with her. Soon enough, we were in that messy room, surrounded by unfinished tasks, laughing and just being. I realized these are the moments we’ll both hold onto. The tasks can wait; this time together is what really counts.
• When was the last time you put aside your to-do list to be fully present with someone you love? What did that moment mean to you?
3.Practice Gratitude
It may sound simple or overused, but writing down three things I’m truly grateful for each day, with my whole heart and intention, can shift everything. Lately, I am grateful for my family’s health, for having a roof over our heads, and for having really caring friends. Even on the hard days, it’s a reminder that there’s so much to appreciate and that happiness doesn’t need much.
• What are three simple things you’re grateful for today that bring a sense of grounding or joy?
4.“The Days Are Long, But the Years Are Short”
My husband said this to me the other day. He heard it from someone else and it shook him up. With kids, the days can feel long and sometimes overwhelming so this sticks with me, reminding me to savor even the small moments no matter what. This quote nudges me to be present—it’s a gentle reminder that the chaos and joy won’t last forever.
• Is there a small, ordinary moment you can slow down to savor today, knowing it may become a cherished memory?
5. Create Time Blocks for Yourself
Finding time to pause. At the moment I plan my week around the baby’s naps and feeding schedules, but I also carve out small blocks for “me time,” whether it’s to nap, watch a movie, for buying some flowers, creating a new piece of jewelry or pouring myself a cup of tea. Whenever I get lost in time, I pull out my calendar app to see where I am in the day. I also like to connect set alarms on my Xiaomi watch. These little nudges help me stay grounded amid the daily chaos. My watch has become an essential part of my rhythm as a parent and business owner, even know I don’t like wearing it (stylewise).
• What’s one block of time you can set aside this week just for yourself? What would you like to do with it?
6.Walk It Out
When emotions start to build up, I know I need to move my body, so I take a walk. It’s a lifeline that helps me process my feelings and allows them to flow rather than weigh me down. Each step gives me the chance to breathe deeper and reconnect with myself. Even with baby Luna snuggled on my chest in her carrier, I keep moving, knowing that the simple act of walking will help me.
• When emotions build up, what’s your go-to way to release them? Could a simple walk or movement help shift your perspective?
7. Talk It Out
Talking to a friend is a breath of fresh air. Just saying things out loud lightens the load, reminding me that I’m not alone. It’s easy to feel isolated, but a conversation often makes everything feel a bit more manageable. Interestingly, about 70% of people who talk things out find relief in just voicing their thoughts. This effect is often linked to reduced cortisol levels, which lowers overall stress and increases feelings of connection, even if no advice or reply is offered.
• Is there someone in your life you can talk to about what’s on your mind? How would sharing lighten your load?
8.Capture Ideas on the Go
You know how inspiration can hit at the most random times? The feeling of not being able to act on them right away sometimes stresses me out. These days, my best ideas come while juggling kids and errands. I’ve started recording them by doing voice notes in my Notes app—I literally talk to my notes app and it writes everything down for me. it’s easier and keeps me from losing any lightbulb moments. I can always organize them later.
• What’s one simple method you could use to capture your ideas when inspiration strikes during your busy days?
9. Listen, open your mind and learn from others
On those long days with the kids, my AirPods and a good podcast help me feel a little more connected and inspired. I love the idea of learning or hearing something uplifting when I’m multitasking—doing chores, changing diapers, or breastfeeding. Some favorites I return to often are:
The Motherkind Podcast: This podcast feels like a heart-to-heart chat with friends, offering real talk and support about the ups and downs of motherhood.
The Mel Robbins Podcast: Mel is like a friend I can turn to on those overwhelming days. She gives practical advice and strategies backed up by science that inspire me to take action and tackle challenges in all areas of my life.
Hindsight: My husband and I often play this podcast at home in the speakers, filling the space with softness and inspiration. It’s like a rock we return to on those long hard days. Especially the one called “ Another Hill”. Give it a listen
Expanded Podcast by To Be Magnetic: On manifestation and mindset, inspiring me to dig deeper and self reflect.
It’s like a quiet moment just for me, even in the busiest parts of the day.
• Is there a podcast you can turn to for inspiration and guidance during your everyday moments?
