Retreating to Your Inner Island
As fall moves into winter, nature slows down to rest for a while before blossoming again in the spring. And we should, too! This is a time to retreat to our inner islands, where deep wisdom and serenity await us.
Going inward doesn’t require much. Just some time and intention. Something as simple as a cup of tea can become a sacred ritual through mindfulness. In winter, I like to brew a cup of rich, warming vanilla tea and savor every sip.
This simple practice takes me back to my childhood on the island of Mauritius, where life moved at its own pace.
Another cherished ritual is going through my favorite books, flipping through them, and contemplating calming pages. This grounds me when life gets hectic.
I also take more time to notice the little things. The sound of my beads and crystals when I sort them for my customers. The smell of my candle and palo santo in the morning. The hidden intricate details of a plant. The softness of my daughter’s tiny, perfect feet. It’s amazing what beauty is revealed when we take the time to look.
These are lessons I’m always learning and re-learning. The journey never truly ends. I invite you to join me, to slow down, and honor your deep wisdom.
What do you do to return to your inner island?
